Overview:
Our client is looking for a commercially minded finance professional who can operate comfortably across accounting, financial management, technology and process improvement. This is not a traditional finance role focused only on reporting, controls and month-end. The Commercial Finance Operations Manager will be expected to understand how financial and operational processes work, identify where they are inefficient, and use technology, automation and AI to improve how the business operates.
The right person could come from commercial finance, accounting, audit, financial systems, finance transformation or a product environment, provided they have moved beyond theory and can demonstrate practical experience building or improving processes using technology. The role will suit someone who is equally comfortable interrogating a finance process, working directly with software tools, exploring an AI-enabled solution and collaborating with developers where more technical input is required. This suits someone genuinely energised by complexity: multiple projects, multiple moving parts, and an environment where you’re expected to make good calls without waiting for perfect information. Candidates earlier in their career are welcome to apply, provided they can show real hunger, a track record of high performance, and the discipline to execute under pressure.

Responsibilities:
- Review financial and operational processes to identify manual, repetitive or inefficient ways of working.
- Design and implement improved processes using technology, automation and AI where appropriate.
- Apply strong accounting and financial management principles when evaluating operational and commercial decisions.
- Use AI tools practically to improve the quality, speed and scalability of finance and business processes.
- Work directly with software platforms, integrations and AI-assisted development tools.
- Explore and build technology-enabled solutions rather than relying only on traditional finance processes.
- Use AI-assisted coding, low-code or no-code tools where appropriate to solve business problems.
- Translate commercial and finance requirements into practical process or system improvements.
- Collaborate with developers and other technical stakeholders when solutions require deeper technical implementation.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting, workflow, analysis or other recurring operational tasks.
- Test and refine new solutions to make sure they are practical, accurate and useful to the business.
- Bring a continuous-improvement mindset to how finance and operational work is structured and delivered.
Requirements:
- Strong accounting and financial management fundamentals.
- Commercial finance experience with the ability to understand how financial decisions affect the wider business.
- Practical, hands-on experience using AI tools to develop, automate or improve business processes.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, VS Code or similar platforms.
- Ability to identify inefficient processes and design technology-enabled improvements.
- Comfortable working directly with software platforms, system integrations and development tools.
- Able to collaborate effectively with developers or technical teams where required.
- Experience with AI-assisted coding, low-code or no-code development would be highly valuable.
- Strong analytical ability and confidence working across both financial and operational problems.
- Comfortable moving between accounting detail, process design and technology.
- Open to candidates from finance transformation, financial systems, product, accounting, audit or commercial finance backgrounds where there is clear practical exposure to automation and AI.
- Seniority will be judged more on capability and hands-on experience than age or years in a conventional finance career path.
